Turning Technology into Business Value Webinar Recap

Nonprofits are investing in technology like Salesforce but many still struggle to answer one critical question:

What is this technology actually doing for our mission?

In our recent webinar, Turning Technology Into Business Value, we shared a practical framework to help nonprofit leaders, operations teams, and boards connect Salesforce investments to measurable mission outcomes.

This isn’t a technical problem. It’s a translation problem.

Why Nonprofit Technology ROI Feels Hard to Prove

Across nonprofit organizations, we see three common challenges:

  • Reporting on features instead of outcomes
  • Leadership lacking trust in CRM data
  • A disconnect between system language and board-level strategy

Boards don’t fund dashboards. They fund impact.

The Framework: From Activity to Mission Impact

We introduced a simple four-step model nonprofits can apply immediately:

Activity → Output → Outcome → Mission Impact

Most teams stop at what they built (automation, dashboards, migrations).
Leadership needs to hear what changed — faster intake, improved donor retention, increased program capacity, reduced compliance risk.

For example:

Feature report: “We built new donor reports in Salesforce.”

Value narrative: “We identified at-risk donors 60 days earlier and retained $140K in funding last quarter.”

Same data. Different story.

Whether you are currently using Salesforce or evaluating your tech stack, the principle is the same:

Define measurable outcomes before implementation — and report progress in mission terms.
