How the Salesforce Commons community is shaping the future of Nonprofit Cloud and what it means for nonprofits
Last week, Prolocity team members Tara Cobb and Maria Kelley joined nonprofit leaders, Salesforce partners, admins, and developers at the Salesforce Open Commons Nonprofit Cloud Sprint. These events bring together people who use Salesforce every day to co-create tools, best practices, and documentation that strengthen nonprofit success across the ecosystem.
What Is a Salesforce Commons Sprint?
A Salesforce Open Commons Sprint is a community-driven, hands-on event where Trailblazers work together to solve real challenges facing nonprofits. Managed by Salesforce Commons, these sprints take place three to four times per year and focus on building open-source resources that support organizations using Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud (NPC), NPSP, Marketing Cloud, and other Salesforce products.
Unlike traditional conferences, sprints are:
- Action oriented and collaborative
- Designed so teams immediately begin building, testing, and documenting
- Focused on real outcomes nonprofits can use right away
- Community owned and open to everyone
By design, they create space for genuine problem solving and community-built innovation.
Key Projects from This Sprint
This sprint featured a wide range of initiatives aimed at improving Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud usability, accessibility, configurability, and data best practices. Teams focused on:
- Salesforce Indicators
- Nonprofit Entry Point (NPEP) / Reinventing the Wheel
- Unsubscribe Link Enhancements
- NPC Best Practices: Grantmaking
- NPC Best Practices: Assessments
- Accessible Documentation for Screen Readers
- Page Layouts vs. LRPs with Dynamic Forms
- Education Cloud Trailblazer Collaboration
- Report and Report Type Audits in Private Folders
Each project made meaningful progress, whether through prototypes, documentation, or scalable patterns that nonprofits can begin adopting quickly. As always, the most valuable outcomes came from nonprofits and partners sharing real-world experiences and working side by side.
The Great Migration: A Major Theme of the Sprint
Across nearly every workstream, one topic surfaced repeatedly: the transition from NPSP to Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud. Many organizations are evaluating the shift and asking similar questions, including:
- What should we migrate from NPSP to NPC?
- When is the right time to move?
- How does Salesforce’s roadmap influence timing?
- What training will our teams need?
- How do we prepare our data for AI and Agentforce?
